CUPE Alberta

Rally to stop Edmonton school closures

WHO: Families and school children, concerned citizens, local politicians, media.

WHAT: Rally to SAVE OUR SCHOOLS

WHERE: “The Blue Building”
(Centre for Education, Kingsway Avenue & 101 Street) - We will meet on the field west of the Blue Building, directly across Kingsway Avenue from the Royal Alex Hospital.

WHEN: Tuesday, 13-April-2010 at 5:00 p.m.
Rally to start at about 5:15 p.m.  Parking is limited.

WHY: Send a strong message to Edmonton Public School Board Trustees that
our community schools are the heart of our neighbourhoods and we want them to remain open.

Edmonton Public School Board Trustees will be voting to close five schools and one elementary school program:

Capilano School – Hardisty area
Eastwood School – CCEP*
Fulton Place School – Hardisty area
McCauley School – CCEP*
Parkdale School – CCEP*
Spruce Avenue Elementary Program – CCEP*

CCEP* – City Centre Educational Partnership (inner city schools)

Among the many reasons to oppose schools closures—including decreasing property values in nearby or our own communities—the District will put ever more students on school buses, exacerbating unaddressed transportation issues for Special Needs students including excessive ride times and routine late arrivals.  Please consider attending the rally to Save Our Schools, even if the proposed school closures do not directly affect your family’s school(s).
